Tony Baer is a recognized authority in extending data management practices, governance, and analytics to address Big Data. With strong business development skills, he has established two new research practices at Ovum, an independent analyst and consultancy firm headquartered in London, specializing in global coverage of IT, and telecommunications industries.
Baer brings a holistic view to data management and Big Data issues, thanks to a multi-disciplinary background in areas ranging from data integration, application development, and middleware. Besides delivering research based on the core theme of making Big Data a first class citizen in the enterprise, Baer advises Ovum vendor clients regarding product development, positioning, and messaging. He advises Ovum enterprise clients on how to rationalize data management and analytic strategies as the goal posts are moving.
Among his accomplishments, Baer created and defined the emerging “Fast Data” market segment, focusing on real-time analytics on data at scale. He pioneered research calling for emergent approaches to data governance and data quality that are now being embraced by data integration tool vendors. His current goal is framing the business message for Spark, and forecasting how Spark technology will redefine analytics.
